Suggest your URL to http://www.dmoz.org/ (open directory project). Some sites which use the Open Directory data are AOL Search, AltaVista, HotBot, Google, Lycos, Netscape Search.
Browse to the category which best fits your website and click "suggest URL" at the top. An editor will review your submission to determine if it should be included. If accepted, it can take 2 weeks to several months to be listed.
A couple of things you can work on to improve your ranking on your site:
1) Determine what your top key phrases are (you’d like to rank high if a customer searches for "____"). Work those phrases into your page title and content in normal language (don’t try to simply cram phrases in).
2) Get other people to link to you (good, legitimate sites, not paid spamming sites). The best way is to create enough buzz to have people want to blog and write positive reviews about your product that link to your site.
