My website is everythingfantasyfootball, and it is a fantasy football website where everything on it is free. How could I improve my search engine rank and page traffic for it?

Getting traffic is a combination of a lot of things. The key to success is to create great content that visitors want to use, search engines will love and other websites will naturally link to. Of course, it’s easier said than done.

You can use pay per click advertising in the search engines to reach audiences looking for your products. You can use Google Adwords http://www.google.com/adwords or Yahoo http://searchmarketing.yahoo.com

Here are some shoestring marketing ideas that can help you get the visitors you need at the least cost possible:

1. Create the best content you can with the best products you can possibly offer. Your content is your best advertisement – if visitors love your content, then they will go back and spread the word to others.

2. Make it easy for users to recommend your site. Viral marketing is very important — and easy to tap on the Web. But give your users the tools. Get a Recommend this Site script from websites such as cgiscripts.com and similar directories of scripts. Some even go as far as giving incentives to those who recommend the site to their friends. If only 10 people go to your site, but these 10 people invite 10 more – that’s additional traffic that you get for FREE!

3. Rank well in the search engines (organic search results, not the pay per click). SEs can be a big source of traffic. The key is to create the best content in your niche. If you have good content, other websites will gladly link to you and offer your site as a resource to their audience. Check the on-page factors and be sure to get linked from authority sites in your topic area.

4. Send out press releases. While outfits charge as much as $650 per release, there are free press release submission places on the Web. Press releases allow you to (a) attract media attention; (b) get more back links to your website without sending each website an email request; and (c) get more visibility especially if your press release gets in Google News or Yahoo News.

5. Submit articles. Write articles and submit them to websites accepting author submissions. You get exposure for your business; establishes you as an authority in your field, and allows you to get backlinks for your website. If 50 websites publish your article and it contains a link back to your website, then you easily get 50 links from a single article. The more links you have, the greater your chances for increasing your search engine rankings.

I have my business website for over three months now. I noticed that I search for over twenty page on any search engine and cannot find my site. Mind you, my site it up because if I specifically give someone my website, they do get through fine. How could I improve this. An IT guy did this for me. I don’t have a clue myself as to what information was used to publish my site.

Start building backlinks… make sure that you target the correct keywords! Check the sources for articles on link building/SEO.

Here are some tips from a webmaster friend of mine

I often read under tips for search engine optimization that one should focus on obtaining as many e-mail addresses as possible.
Via contact forms, newsletters, guest rooms etc. etc.
BUT, what I don’t understand is how accumulating e-mail addresses will improve your search engine ranking?
Any thoughts?
Thanks Peter,
I meant obtaining the e-mail addresses legitimately via one’s own site using the common methods.
I’m still not sure how this will improve search engine ranking…

The folks who give you an email address, complete a form or perform some other MDA are future prospects.

That email address is permission to backsell the opt-in – to his grave if you want. So, by collecting email addresses, you can do email blasts, auto-responders, newsletters, etc. to keep you site URL in front of the eyes of potential customers/clients.

It doesn’t have anything to do with Google rank.

I have just developed a website and wondering if anybody could give me advice.

FROM SEARCH ENGINES ONLY GOOGLE CAN GIVE THE PAGE RANK

1.) What is Google page rank?
Page rank is nothing but Google’s way of giving a page importance based on its visibility over the web. Page rank also plays a major role in google’s method of ranking web pages and is calculated based on the number of back links a webpage has.

This means that Google interprets a link from Page A to Page B as a vote for Page A from Page B. According to Google, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote.

Finding Page Rank of a Web Page
The easiest way to get an estimate of a web page’s Page Rank is by using the Google Toolbar. This tools bar is available for Internet explorer and even for Firefox. Internet explorer users can download this toolbar from http://toolbar.google.com and if you use Firefox then you can get the toolbar from http://googlebar.mozdev.org/

Importance of Google Page Rank
Page Rank plays a major role in Google’s ranking algorithm, but is not the only factor that decides which pages will rank higher. There are many other factors (other than page rank) that Google takes into consideration to find the relevancy of a page to a search query. This is clearly reflected in the fact that Google also lists pages having a lower PageRank above pages that have a higher PageRank in the SERPs.

To get more information on Google Page Rank visit http://www.google.com/technology/

The other (other than PageRank) factors that Google takes into consideration to rank web pages are as follows:

* Web Page Title
* Anchor texts
* Heading Tags
* Title/Meta/ALT Tags
* Domain names
* File names
* Directory names
* Keyword density
* Relevancy of back links/inbound links

As Google keeps changing its algorithm on a regular basis it is impossible to say which of the above factors will be given more importance.

2.) How to raise your PageRank?
One easy way of generating links in involves searching the internet to find relevant sites that are either vertically or horizontally related and asking them for a link exchange. Links brought in this manner are more effective and can help successfully increase the Page Rank. In addition to getting links from websites, getting links from quality directories is another way to increase your link popularity. You can also generate inbound links through article submission and press releases among others.

Some important factors to consider:

1.) Try and get High PR Links
2.) Avoid Link backs to Link Farms
3.) Carry Out Internal Link Text Optimization
4.) Get Links from SEO friendly Directories
5.)Get Links that are Placed Higher

Dear yahoo users.

We have over 15 domain names not hosted yet. Does hosting them and redirecting to point to our main domain would help with improving the ranking of our website? Is it safe practice with the search engines?

We would highly appreciate any help in this connection. You can contact via email or yahoo messenger. Blessings

Bishop Salamat Khokhar

Having 15 domain names will not help your search engine ranking because these domains are not viewed as different domains linking to your site, but rather considered as a single domain pointing to the same URL. Search engines such as Google see them as all the same domain if they are all pointed to the same IP address and index only one site.

The problem that arises from this situation is telling the search engines which one is your real domain name. I have seen some folks get into problems with this domain redirection.

The best option is to set up 301 permanent redirects for the other 15. Doing so will help the search engines know which domain name is correct and that they should index

The most effective way to advertise on the Internet is to first set up a website and publish its domain name on major search directories such as Google.com, Yahoo.com [at http://www.google.com/addurl/?... and MSN.com since 85% of Internet shoppers rely on these search directories to provide them with goods and services. In a sense, these search directories are a very large Internet Yellow Pages.

Nevertheless, should your website or opening webpage fail to contain "generic" keywords, then anyone using such "generic" queries will not be able to discover your website. Your domain name [URL] of your website, in a sense, will be invisible, undiscoverable.

You may want to consider some simple algorithms which, when observed and committed in designing of a website with placement of various critical metatags that can surely achieve a high search engine presence and increase Internet traffic to your website. These metatag strategies work well with published webpages at Google and Yahoo.

Design: Should you create an extensive Flash-based website, make sure to fill-in the property entries such as the Title, Description and Keywords. Failing to do so, leaves no hard HTML or ALT resource that can be readily indexed by search robots. Also consider the Internet audience and their incoming setup. For example, if they are on analog/dialup, Flash webpages take too long to load up and therefore analog users will likely lose interest and discontinue entering the Flash site. On the other hand, anyone on hi-speed DSL lines, will welcome Flash pages which load quickly. So before designing a pure Flash websitge, ask the simple question, "Who’s my end user – is he on dialup or DSL?" And if you had to choose between these two users for maximum marketability, then select analog users since 80% of most resident users are still analog Internet subscribers and pure HTML designed webpages is best for them.

A non-Flash-based website which relies on hard text, is far easier to be indexed by search robots. Limit the use of stylized text saved as .gifs since as a graphic, they are not indexable by search robots.

Avoid use of frames since any number of search robots are unable to properly classify textual material.

Placement of Metatags:

A ranking or search order does take place with Google and Yahoo and it begins with the "Title" metag which should consist of no more than 65 characters separated by commas. The "Title" should describe in generic terms, the goods and services, followed by a location from which the resource is located, i.e., city, state. The placement of a domain name which is not generic within the "Title" is not appropriate, unless your domain name is a major recognizable brand name.

The second metatag is the "Description" which is usually 25-30 words to form a complete sentence which best describes one’s goods and services.

And the very last category – "Keywords" are also somewhat limited to 15-16 words which can be plural and compound in nature. Again, avoid multiple entries which could be mistaken as "spamdexed entries" which is defined as the loading, and submission of repetitive words into a particular metatag category. "Spamdexing" when discovered on a webpage and reported to Google’s spamreport.com can result in the elimination of your website from their search directory.

Here’s an example of a very highly-placed website on Yahoo.com: Begin with the search query "pizza downtown los angeles." It will bring up some 1.4 million+ websites as results. Check out where "Pizza Next Door" is ranked. It’s in the Top Five! Again, Pizza Next Door’s high web presence was achieved by proper web design and placement of relevant metatags according to Yahoo’s publication guidelines.

Good luck!

you need useful info in the first place. info that somebody need and will comeback to you if they have doubt. then start marketing it. you might need to submit to related directories. or, if you serious in business, you can consider paying Yahoo! USD299 p.a to be included in their ‘exclusive’ directories.

as backlinks are important to be ranked higher in search engine, you can submit articles to article directories also. send more and more related articles and submit them to quality article directories.

last but not least, you can market your website in the forums too. try to solve their problem first, then only offer your product as ‘the potential solution’. Here are some of my colleagues websites that perform….
