One of the main ways to improve your web ranking is to consider getting your website linked on other sites. But you need to use a key word other than simply ‘business cards’ . One really useful tip is to put the name of your nearest town you are physically near on your title page. Also possibly a particular specific word related to business cards.( you have that I just saw)

Looking at your main website page you really need to add a lot more text explaining what you provide using the key words in the title of your main page.

So for example if you want to emphasize all the items in your the title of your main webpage you really need to add a brief paragraph about each of the things you do. For example:

Anyone know of ways to improve a website’s ranking from major search engines? I know in the past people used to stuff all sorts of keywords into the headers, and there are services which charge to improve ranking but I’m pretty sure they are mostly scams. Anything useful to do, besides advertise the site?

The best advice I can give you is to create original content rich pages and stay away from black hat SEO techniques it will get you banned from search engines.

Make sure you specify an accurate title in the TITLE tag (and use some of your targeted keywords near the beginning of your title)

Specify some keywords in the KEYWORDS META tag. Although it is not really used for ranking, it is used by search engines to confirm the contents of the page

And use the DESCRIPTION meta tag to give a short description of the page.

Do not use javascript for important links, do not participate in linking schemes or link farms, do not duplicate content on your site. Do not make the colour of your text the same as your background. Stay away from flash and excessive use of images.

There are many other do’s and don’ts so the bottom line is, create your pages with useful original content with the users of the content in mind. If you do that and supply the Internet community with helpful information you will rank high on the search engines because you are giving people what they are looking for.

I have a website I built on Yahoo business, it’s just a crappy template they had. But when I do a GOOGLE or YAHOO search for "Original Signs" (the name of my business) My site is not there! You want to look into Search Engine Optimization tactics. I suggest you read up on it (you can find tons of articles and blogs about this online) but there are main things that are easy to do that can help.

-Use your meta tags, or keywords in your content management system. crawlers look for these when looking for relevance and ranking.

-Make sure the TITLES and FIRST PARAGRAPHS of text have the text you think people are searching for.

-If you want to get strategic about what words to use in your keywords or meta tags, look at your top 5 competitors websites and see what their meta tags are. You can do this at times by viewing the source [view --> source on your toolbar] or by testing the searches out yourself in google.

-contact yahoo for advice. I have worked on new media marketing strategy on a yahoo site before and they have been helpful to me.
