I have posted links to my website on forums and my blog and actively participate in the forums, always using my website’s link as my signature. Same in my blogs. But they just don’t seem to be getting picked up by yahoo and msn’s web crawlers. Only a few of them have come up as inlinks on my webmaster’s page. How long does it usually take? Are some forums better than others? Does it depend on how often those forums are crawled or updated? Or is it something I’m doing wrong?

Each web page has it’s own unique Pagerank, the way Pagerank is gained is by backlinks to your web pages from off-site backlinks.

Yes, internal linking does distribute Pagerank, the issue is it divided up just the same as with outbound links, so if you have 5 internal links and 5 out bound links on one web page your passing on in theory only 1\10 of the possible value you can.

Now, if Pagerank is divided up different via internal links and out bound links is something only the Google engineers would know and keep secret to prevent abuse. You best bet is to build backlinks to all your web pages, using proper anchor text to help your SERPs as well.

I am aware this is something that you need to have a successful web pressence. But how hard is it really? Why pay someone $2-$6 per link instead of going out and placing the links myself? Please shed some light on the link building process whether its text, article, blog or whatever I am just trying to understand this alot more.

First you need to place links where it really concern and usually for some people it is a headache just to research for these links. And one more things it takes hour to do it manually. Those people who does link building services has some kind of software to ease their works. Good link building software is some kind of costly but then it is an investment for these people.

i would like to write one page for every keyword and put about 200 relevant words per page about that keyword in order to improve search engine ranking. Are there any rules or tips to doing this? For instance, can i repeat blocks of text (like for instance a blurb about my company) on each page after the keyword text? And if i have 10 similar keywords, can i use the same block of text but interchange the keywords (fyi- it would be written in full, grammatically correct sentence that are relevant to the keyword). What other rules should i be aware of to maximize ranking? I know about cross linking and title tags etc. Just want to focus this answer on keyword descriptive pages if you can.. thanks in advance for your help.

You may want to consider some simple algorithms which, when observed and committed in designing of a website with placement of various critical metatags that can surely achieve a high search engine presence and increase Internet traffic to your website. These metatag strategies work well with published webpages at Google and Yahoo.

Design: Should you create an extensive Flash-based website, make sure to fill-in the property entries such as the Title, Description and Keywords. Failing to do so, leaves no hard HTML or ALT resource that can be readily indexed by search robots. Also consider the Internet audience and their incoming setup. For example, if they are on analog/dialup, Flash webpages take too long to load up and therefore analog users will likely lose interest and discontinue entering the Flash site. On the other hand, anyone on hi-speed DSL lines, will welcome Flash pages which load quickly. So before designing a pure Flash websitge, ask the simple question, "Who’s my end user – is he on dialup or DSL?" And if you had to choose between these two users for maximum marketability, then select analog users since 80% of most resident users are still analog Internet subscribers and pure HTML designed webpages is best for them.

A non-Flash-based website which relies on hard text, is far easier to be indexed by search robots. Limit the use of stylized text saved as .gifs since as a graphic, they are not indexable by search robots.

Avoid use of frames since any number of search robots are unable to properly classify textual material.

Placement of Metatags:

A ranking or search order does take place with Google and Yahoo and it begins with the "Title" metag which should consist of no more than 65 characters separated by commas. The "Title" should describe in generic terms, the goods and services, followed by a location from which the resource is located, i.e., city, state. The placement of a domain name which is not generic within the "Title" is not appropriate, unless your domain name is a major recognizable brand name.

The second metatag is the "Description" which is usually 25-30 words to form a complete sentence which best describes one’s goods and services.

And the very last category – "Keywords" are also somewhat limited to 15-16 words which can be plural and compound in nature. Again, avoid multiple entries which could be mistaken as "spamdexed entries" which is defined as the loading, and submission of repetitive words into a particular metatag category. "Spamdexing" when discovered on a webpage and reported to Google’s spamreport.com can result in the elimination of your website from their search directory.

Here’s an example of a very highly-placed website on Yahoo.com: Begin with the search query "pizza downtown los angeles." It will bring up some 1.4 million+ websites as results. Check out where "Pizza Next Door" is ranked. It’s in the Top Five! Again, Pizza Next Door’s high web presence was achieved by proper web design and placement of relevant metatags according to Yahoo’s publication guidelines.

Looking for good advice, and possibly website/article links about improving my search engine placement and page ranks. I’ve already got descriptive meta tags on all my pages, descriptive alt tags on my images, clean code, and a good site map with text links to all pages on the site.

Anything more I can do? Anyone have some great tomes of knowledge regarding the subject that they could link to?

Here is what we did (it worked better on Yahoo):

1. Metatags, keywords on every page.
2. Good content
3. sitemap
4. Verification by Yahoo and HTML (use of search engine provided files placed on your site…)
5. Search for "submit your web site for free" and go at it.
6. SEO submission
7. Place free ads/classifides/directory entry on free sites
8. Create other similar sites (preferrably free) and have them point to your site, mention your site
9. Include your web site in various sites (craigslist, linkedin…)
